Lucy

I have been part of the dance community for many, many years. I have watched the style grow, develop and transform into what it is today. I have been lucky enough to have danced in many of the different branches ranging from the deep south of Dunedin, to Mount Maunganui and almost everywhere in between.

One of the many things that I love about dancing is the sense of coming together and seeing all your friends in one spot for a whole weekend. The best part is this happens for 10 months of the year. The encouragement, support and banter that occurs at each of these events always fills my cup and I go away on a buzz. Seeing people grow in their confidence, in their dance ability and being part of that journey is an incredible feeling.

For me a dance weekend is all about having fun and creating new friendships. You can usually find me on the social floor or if you listen for one of the loudest people in the room that will be me. If I find out your name you can almost guarantee I’ll be cheering you on. Beginner to advanced, intermediate to champion, no matter your level, whether you have three moves or an unlimited list, it doesn’t matter, come ask me for a dance.

Trent

In 2015 my partner dragged a somewhat reluctant Trent to his first MJ class in Christchurch. Little did he know this would be the start of a new addiction or journey (either works) and would soon be looking up his nearest studio, so next time he went back he would be able to lead more than a return! (though I’ve since learnt you can do a lot with a return!)

I’ve dabbled in stage theatre, musical theatre, a dash of hip hop, a term or two of ballet, and now a couple years of MJ.
My favourite thing about this style is rather learning a routine to a song and doing that a couple of times, we get to keep what we learn for the next dance.  An added bonus is that its impromptu nature means every time we dance we create something new.
I love the social side of dancing and can’t wait to catch up with everyone!
